Group classes and private training
Group classes and private training
Focusing on the health of the spine, mobility of the joints, and the efficient control of breath and movement, Pilates can be integrated into any activity you do, forever. Joseph Pilates invented this fitness system while he was incarcerated, creating the first reformer (a type of apparatus we still use today) out of bed springs! Both with equipment and without, he kept himself and the other inmates in shape...staying active was that important to him!
True to its origins, Pilates is for everyone. You don’t have to be a boxer, gymnast, or circus performer to benefit from this work. And exercise in general doesn’t have to feel impossible or intimidating. All bodies like to move! Together, we will find ways for Pilates to fit you.
I've been teaching fitness since 2009. Informed by a multifaceted background–I'm a late blooming martial artist and dancer, a writer of fiction and nonfiction, and a student of neuromechanics–I use my whole toolbox with every student and client. As a self-proclaimed reformed klutz, I believe in the power of feeling connected to your physical self, that we gain personal agency through movement.
Not unlike my time as a tutor/writing coach, being a movement teacher involves guidance, motivation, and promoting clarity–in this case, with the beautiful, frustrating, necessary conundrum that is the human body.
I hope you leave every session with a greater sense of awareness, autonomy, and joy.
